DJJ operates five secure facilities, as well as a variety of alternative placement locations.
Which facility a youth will be housed in depends on where they are in the juvenile justice process and how serious their alleged crimes are.
- Evaluation Centers are typically early in the process and are used to determine what facility will be the best fit and how to approach a case
- The Juvenile Detention Center is for pre-trial youth who haven’t received a disposition and/or are not out on parole.
- The Broad River Road Facility is the main secure long-term facility for adjudicated youth.
Alternative Placement Camps are for youth on transfer, probation or parole.
